Hilton/Perkins Program.
.
National Program In the United States, Hilton/Perkins helps parents, teachers, professionals, and organizations to understand and meet the educational and development needs of children with deafblindness or blindness with other disabilities. Program staff gather data and develop publications, curricula, literature, and resource materials for parents and professionals, nationally and internationally. The Hilton/Perkins program co-sponsors DB-LINK (www.dblink.org), a national information clearinghouse on deafblindness that provides resources and information to families and teachers.
International Program The Hilton/Perkins International Program supports programs for children who are deafblind or blind with multiple disabilities in more than fifty developing countries around the world, especially Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Guided by the principle that partner agencies should become independent and self-sustaining, Hilton/Perkins staff provide the training, consultation and technical expertise that empower the local workers to establish and expand their own programs.
Educational Leadership Program The Hilton/Perkins Program operates the dynamic and innovative Educational Leadership Program on the Perkins campus. Each year, eight or nine educators are selected from nations with few services for children who are deafblind. The participants spend an intensive academic year at Perkins School for the Blind, studying and getting practical classroom experience. The skills and expertise they gain here prepare the graduates to become leaders in establishing services for students who are deafblind in their home countries.
